Below is an excerpt from the controversial book, A Rip in Heaven, by Jeanine Cummins. The purpose of the excerpt comes from a request from Reggie. He is asking for our help. Reggie Says, " What I need is for it to be put on the internet asking for anyone willing to help. To obtain the phone records of the number between April 5and April 7, 1991. These phone records can prove who was involved in interferring with the investigation and outcome of this case...

From Page 201 of A Rip in Heaven:..."First Grandpa Gene stopped to privately speak words of comfort to his daughter
and share some tears. He then made a beeline for the telephone and started dialing, calling in favors. He spent the next hour calling every contact he could think of is St. Louis-and that was no small list. Granpa Gene had friends in the Coast Guard, friends in the police department, friends in the government. He even had friends in the St. Louis Cardinals baseball adiministration, although he couldn't think of anyway they could be particuarly useful at the monent. He called everyone he could think of, and before the hour was out, he had left a tidal wave of information-gathering, damage-controlling, eager-to-help activity in his wake. He would see to it that every possible human effor was made to find his granddaughters.
Reggie cont. "As the page clearly says that favors were called in and names the types of people but not who. The specific numbers will establish who was called from that numbers on those days.
Anybody that can obtain this information will help in the goal of bringing these secrets to light. All they have to do is put them on My Space...Facebook...Twitter..etc.. and mail the information to Michael Manners in Kansas City Missouri. They don't have to make themselves known. They can also send information to Chris King of the St. Louis American Newspaer. If no one stands up and brings this information forward, then justice will stand with a looming question hidden behind the scenes.

Dear: Friends and Supporters

Hello! How are you doing on God's Green Earth? I hope this letter finds you feeling better

than I am, because I would not wish my sorrow on anybody. It's very hard to keep believing in the good in the world when you're surrounded by so much hate, death, murder and selfishness. It is you and your support that keeps me hopeful. Not the corporations and government agencies owned by corporations. I know in my heart that the love in the hearts of the many is greater that the pain caused by the few.

So it for that reason I am able to keep the faith and keep believing in our collective ability to bring forth the greater good. You have done a lot to help me save my life on a wing and a prayer I am still with you and trying real hard to return the growing love.

Unfortunately, I am still in the grips of the evil we face in the hearts of hate and selfish gain. I am still suffering daily attacks of abuse that no one in government or politics are willing or able to stop. Right now I am restricted to only four hours a week in the law library and am still wearing old used clothes issued to me a year ago. My legal mail is being tampered with and the guards are constantly doing everything they can to put me in the hole.

This is all because they are doing everything in their power to stop me from proving my innocence. The thing that has made it even harder in that I am now having to handwrite a motion to have to file in the courts.

Yes, you would think that with all the support I have and people speaking out on my behalf, someone would do something about the abuse and I would not still be having to draw up my own motions. Be that as it may, that's the reality of what I am presently facing. Sometimes I feel completely alone and unprotected , because it seems like no one cares what's happening to me. The most important thing is that I don't start feeling sorry for myself and keep my head up, as I deal with the reality of what's happening to me.

I'm telling you this because I know there are some people concerned about me and interested in helping me help myself and those interested in true justice and against systematic executions. I've been trying to do as much as I can, but things have reached a point where it's hard to help myself. I don't have the money or resources to file this motion in the court and I am trying to find somebody, anybody willing to represent me on this motion.

What snapped me back to reality, that I need to ask for help is that I am broke. I wasn't even able to do anything for my daughter for her graduation. I have written some poems and a book and made a meditation tape. I have even tried to offer to do hand drawn portraits for donations to my defense and still nothing. With all the support that's there to help me, one would think these problems would not exist. Unfortunately, the reality is that I am alone and still in need of help at the end of the day.

I don't understand it, but whatever the problem is that's blocking people from helping me who want to help me. I'm letting you know I am suffering and am on the brink of collapse, but I will keep fighting and trying and praying. It's hard for me to ask for help knowing how hard things are in today's economy without trying to help myself first. Im doing my best, but I fear my best alone will not be good enough.

We received news today that Reginald Clemons has been granted an indefinite stay based on his appending appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court.

I was standing on a city street in Saint Louis, Missouri. I was wearing my green and black "Justice for Reggie" t-shirt. I had a sign in my hand, with several others, reading "Save Reggie". We had a table set up with a green tablecloth and skirt, and green balloons with literature and Reggie pins all around. We stood in the heat of the day, to save a life, the life of Reggie Clemons. All of us gathered signatures, distributed literature and spoke about this unjust, ridiculous case. Drivers stopped and pulled over on the side of the road to sign petitions and speak with us for a moment. We were getting a lot of support and love from all types of people. This is a wonderful day, but it gets better. At 5:12pm I got a phone call from a family member informing me of his stay. I cannot express the thoughts and emotions that ran through my mind and body at that very moment.

Elation, joy, relief, hope and love are what I feel. I know that this has only been possible due to the power and love of Jesus Christ!! He has made this news come about and is the reason Reginald Clemons will not be executed in Missouri on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009.

Relief is what I feel the most, although I know this is not the time to relax completely or be satisfied. Our fight must continue, we must continue to fight on Reggie's behalf. The ensuing fight would be for Reggie to receive justice, a new and fair trial, and ultimately be freed from prison.

This is an innocent man who has been wrongfully imprisoned for 18 years-18 years- a life from birth until legal age; now that is a long time. Last night my family and I went to the prayer vigil for Reggie Clemons and a guest speaker was Darryl Burton, an innocent man from Missouri who was wrongfully convicted of a murder and put on Death Row; he was in prison for 24 years before he was released!!!

This is a travesty, tragedy; it is sad that situations and stories exist such as this in the United States of America. Justice is not served in so many cases; there are many people who are wrongfully convicted, imprisoned, and even executed. I pray that Reggie receives justice and that the truth is revealed, for the whole world to see and take notice of.

As the most powerful nation in the world, we need to look at ourselves and realize that we are a nation that functions in a way which is far from perfect, fair or completely just, and this must be changed. After all, this is the land of the free, equal and just, right!? Well, we need to do all that we can to live up to this creed, beginning with the criminal justice system; which is disappointing on so many levels.

Let's keep our heads up and fight for what is right, what is true and we will prevail as a nation of the free and just!!!

Press Conference

Last night a press conference was held @ Kennerly Temple in Saint Louis, MO. Our featured guest was human rights activist and actor Danny Glover, well-known for his performance in The Color Purple. The documentary Borrowed Time, about Reggie's case, was shown.

Reggie and Danny spoke to each other via phone by satellite, and members of the audience were given the chance to ask Reggie questions. The whole evening was full of emotion; joy, pain, sadness, hope, love and compassion. A nice amount of people attended the event, and displayed their support for Reggie.

The joy of the evening came from the fact that we were doing something great, fighting for a man's life who we loved so much. Our hope came from the collection of all types of people-politicians, neighbors, friends, family, citizens, business owners, religious, community organizers, etc., who were there to support Reggie, the exposure and enlightenment that was a result of our movement for justice. The pain was from our hearts and souls; the fact that we had to deal with this situation, that we had to fight for an innocent life. Love could be felt everywhere, each and every person in attendance truly cared about what we were doing and really cared about justice for Reggie.

Danny Glover's speech was heart-felt, moving, and full of so much truth. As he said, we have to fight for our change, fight for what is right. We need to evaluate ourselves as a nation and admit to our wrongdoings in order to transform our system and create a new, just, strong and courageous nation of citizens.

A member of the audience asked Reggie what he does to get by, how he keeps living and fighting for his life. It truly hurt to hear him say that he wakes up each morning and thinks about his family; how the family is dealing with his execution date, how the family is feeling and functioning. It hurt even more to hear him say what he does to pass time: exercise, sift through thousands of pages of information about his case repeatedly, and pray to God that his voice is heard and that the support and action of the community makes a difference in the hearts and minds of those individuals with power who placed him in his position.

Last night is one I will never forget, one that I will carry with me each day. We know God is moving, and that per His words, "The truth shall set you free". All we need at this point is the truth, which has been covered up and polluted for the last 18 years. All things can and will be done through Christ, who strengthens us. The highlight of the evening was when the audience gleefully and strongly protested "Justice for Reggie" until their throats were tired.

This is what we ultimately seek: justice, in a system that has proven its injustice, unfairness and corruption. Injustice for one is injustice for all; Justice for one is justice for all. This movement will not only bring justice for Reggie, but for those who feel the betrayal, pain and hope that one day their voices will be heard and that justice be properly served.

A Letter From Reggie Clemons

Dear: Friends & Supporters,

Hello! How are you doing today? I hope this letter and message reaches you in time. There is a documentary about the Death Penalty and my pending Execution. The State of Missouri has already wrongfully murdered my co-defendant Marlin Gray, whom died maintaining and proclaiming his innocence.

The people of Justice Watch/The Color of Justice have recently finished a documentary called, “Borrowed Time”. Unfortunately, Justice Watch does not have the necessary resources to distribute the documentary. Since the documentary is about my case and I am praying to get the truth out, I am asking you to please help Justice Watch in any way you can.

Even if this documentary does not save me from wrongfully being murdered by the State of Missouri, at the very least, the World must know about the shedding of innocent blood. Hopefully, that will make that much harder for States to keep killing mercilessly with no regard for the truth of the case evidence. They might get another pound of flesh out of me, but I at least want the World to know how my life was taken.

That way my mother (Vera Thomas), my beautiful mother’s eighteen years of hard work to help me won’t be silenced into the darkness of death and cover ups. So my lovely young daughter will know I did everything possible and never gave up. So I can do more with my life than die for a crime I DID NOT COMMIT.
